VAIO has its headquarters and factory in the city of Azumino in Nagano Prefecture. This shows our honest desire to pursue the essence of production as a Japanese PC maker. All VAIO PCs are individually finished in Azumino by dedicated technicians and undergo a thorough quality check with over 120 points.
Azumino is home to the experience and history that VAIO has cultivated. It is also home to people who embody Japan’s skills, pride, and attention to detail.
Scratches, dents, glare, and dirt. Only beautiful things deserve the name VAIO.
We visually check each PC, observing it from multiple angles in different lighting conditions. We don’t even overlook the smallest scratches on the VAIO logo.
Because our designs focus on the essence of the product, we pay meticulous attention to proper gaps and seamless transitions.
For example, consider the fit of the gap around the display or the recesses of the touchpad and palm rest. Areas prone to errors are checked with a feeler gauge set to fine tolerances.
“A satisfying click feedback.” This is an important point of quality.
The smoothness of the click can drastically affect the ease of using a PC. We test different areas of the click pad, ensuring with our own fingers that you experience a stress-free, satisfying click no matter where you press.
We individually check each of the 87 keys by pressing them just as a customer would.
The keyboard is the place most touched by our customers. Rather than assuming that it will work properly, we actually confirm that it functions.
Finger-pointing confirmation
We confirm each important part with a finger-pointing inspection. Though it may seem inefficient at first glance, relying on people’s experience and awareness improves the accuracy of our quality checks.
We make our own necessary tools, just like a production company should.
Easy-to-operate tools are essential to avoid making any mistakes. In Azumino, we share ideas and make our own original tools if necessary, assembling them from wiring.
“What will happen if I go out into the world like this?” Machines don’t think like this.
